My Top Ten Books

Top Ten Book Challenge!!!
Special thanks to my facebook friend which in turn became a challenge and a chance for me to pen down my top ten books.
To my most updated knowledge, I am not a born – reader. It’s still unimaginable to recollect the journey I've travelled in the art of reading to where I stand right now!
From my childhood, I started reading anything and everything that pass my eyes. Newspapers take the first place; to educate and to delight, especially those tiny papers that wrap the oily foods in the local Tea shop contains the important news. I still remember me carrying pen and taking notes of the captions written on the buses and autos in the Lilliputian bus ticket (the dream of becoming lecturer started then).
There are exceptions in my list. “The Holy Bible” (which I’ve read more than I could remember both in English and Tamil) has special reverence. I would be a fool if I add it along with the mortal books. Millions of philosophies, novels and Self Help books acknowledge Bible as their root. Another exception is Sangam Literature (Tamil Literature- Critics believe that it’s the first language of the world and of mine of course). My ten books may sound strange but that’s what has made me invincible!!!
1. Biographical memoirs of St John Bosco by Giovanni Battista Lemoyne (XIX volumes 700 pages each)
2. Summa Theologica by St Thomas Aquinas
3. Thirukural by Thiruvalluvar
4. Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl
5. Interpretation of Dreams by Sigmund Freud
6. Memories, Dreams, Reflections by Carl Gustav Jung
7. Myth, Literature and African World by Wole Soyinka
8. The Old man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway
9. The Story of my Life by Hellen Keller

10. Adutha Vinadi (Next Second) by Rumi
Books like The Alchemist, Nausea, Tuesdays with Morrie, Gitanjali, Short stories of Leo Tolstoy, O Henry, Anton Chekhov and Mark Twain, The Perennial Philosophy, Things fall Apart, Don Quixote etc have to be specially mentioned.
These books are collected from my intellectual garbage, and I am very well aware that I am just a drop in the ocean, and yet to venture a lot!!!
